Curriculum
EYFS
Starting with Strong Foundations
Our curriculum in the Early Years has been designed with the intent of providing learners with the foundation knowledge and skills they need to be successful. The learners in our Early Years setting are given equal opportunity to access high quality learning experiences, environments and rich provision that improves outcomes, widens aspirations and prepares them for their next steps.
The central concept that underpins the curriculum focusses on learners gaining an understanding of their position in the world: Myself, Our School, Our Families, Our Community, Our City, Our World.
Through a range of key themes and a central spine of quality core texts, the curriculum builds to develop a deeper sense of self-assurance and knowledge that they are members of a community, their city and global citizens of the world, thus preparing them for their future pathway.
There is a structured approach to Reading, Writing and Maths, with great value given to Oracy which is woven through our teaching. We place a strong emphasis on these core subjects as the building blocks for all other learning, with an intentionally-sharp focus on developing the fundamental skills of handwriting, spelling, phonics and early mathematics. The pedagogical approach we take in Reception provides a balance of opportunity to have high quality interaction and targeted development time with skilled adults, as well as time to explore and play with their peers in child-led experiences.
